According to the latest leaks, the iPhone 17 series is expected to feature major design changes, with the Pro models featuring a larger quad camera setup and the standard iPhone 17 sporting an unknown look.
In brief
The iPhone 17 Pro models could feature a larger camera island and a more compact design
The base iPhone 17 could retain the look of the iPhone 16, making it stand out
Apple could introduce reverse wireless charging for the Pro and 120Hz displays for all models
The iPhone 17 series, which includes the iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, is expected to launch in September 2025. This time around, it looks to be an unusual launch event from Apple, different from any other in recent years, or at least if the latest leaks are to be believed. Popular leaker Majin Bu has shared a leaked CAD image of all the iPhone 17 models, which shows major design changes across the board. However, not all models will get the same treatment.
According to the leak, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are set to look different with a bold new camera design. Instead of the current squarish camera bump, these models will feature a large rectangular camera island, making them instantly recognisable. The leak also suggests that the Pro models could be more compact, a surprising move considering the recent iPhone 16 Pro saw a slight increase in display size.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air - the rumoured slim variant that's set to replace the Plus models - is expected to sport a single rear camera housed in a sleek camera strip. This bar-style camera module - if you can call it that - is somewhat similar to what we've seen on Google Pixel phones over the past few years.
However, the standard iPhone 17 may not join the redesign party. According to leaks, it will stick closely to the iPhone 16's design, retaining the familiar vertical camera bump. This decision could make it stand out in the lineup, especially when compared to the more prominent changes on the Pro and Air models.
Under the hood, the standard iPhone 17 and 17 Air are expected to be powered by Apple's next-generation 3nm A19 chipset, while the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max could feature the improved A19 Pro SoC. The Pro models could also feature 48-megapixel cameras across the board, meaning all four lenses - front and back - could have the same 48-megapixel resolution.
Another exciting possibility is the introduction of ProMotion aka 120Hz displays for the standard iPhone 17 and 17 Air models, a feature currently reserved for the Pro lineup. Additionally, Apple is reportedly testing reverse wireless charging for the Pro models, allowing users to charge accessories like AirPods on the back of the phone.
Furthermore, talks on the street suggest that all iPhone 17 devices will have an aluminium build, thus titanium material will not be used in the build for the Pro models.
